Case Study: How One Content Audit 10x Elena’s Website Traffic

Last Updated on October 6, 2026

Let’s be honest, if you’re a busy business owner, blogger, author, or with over 1,000 blog posts 😮, it’s easy to feel like you’re drowning in content but not getting the eyes (or the results) you deserve.

That’s exactly where Elena was when she booked a content audit with me.

Elena is a multi-passionate powerhouse, and she’s built a huge archive of articles, but her traffic just wasn’t where she wanted it to be.

She wanted more people reading her work and seeing her offers, but with her busy schedule and being a mom of 2, she didn’t have hours to waste on strategies that don’t move the needle.

So, we focused on the two things that would make the biggest impact, fast.

Because if you know me, you know I’m all about creating smarter, not harder.

Content Audit Insights: How Structured Headings And Smart Internal Links Skyrocket Elena’s SEO

After taking a look at Elena’s website, there were two things that immediately stood out to me, and the best part is that both were easy wins that would make a huge difference, even for someone as busy as she is.

Here are the results after she started implementing the suggestions based on her website and existing content (source: Keysearch). Note: From my experience, traffic numbers are actually higher than Keysearch numbers displayed on the left side.

1. Structured Headings That Work For Readers, Google Search, And AI Search

One of the biggest problems I see on so many blogs is messy headings.

Sometimes they’re full sentences, sometimes they’re not clear at all, and often they don’t actually say what that section of the article is about.

Here’s what I recommend (and what we fixed for Elena):

  • Use only one H1 per article, which is your main title and should clearly tell readers, search engines, and AI search what the whole post is about.
  • Use H2 headings for each main section of your article, almost like chapter titles.
  • If you need to break down an H2 section further, use H3 for those.
  • Don’t skip heading levels, and always go in order: H1, then H2, then H3, and so on.
  • Keep your headings clear, concise, and use keywords (search terms) that your audience is actually searching for.

For example, if you’re writing about “the best hotel in Rome with an infinity pool,” make that your heading instead of something vague or a random sentence.

This makes your content easier to scan, helps your readers, and gives search engines a clear structure to follow.

2. Internal Links That Make Sense (And Get Clicks!)

The second thing we focused on was Elena’s internal linking.

Like many business owners, bloggers, and coaches with a blog, she was linking random words or even whole sentences, like “in the afternoon we had a cocktail at the pool,” instead of using targeted keywords (search terms).

If you want readers to learn more about this hotel where you had a cocktail at the pool, use “the best hotel in Rome with an infinity pool” as your anchor text and link it directly to this article (or a related term).

This is a quick fix that helps your readers find the right content and gives your SEO a serious boost.

Bonus Tip: Stay Focused On One Topic Cluster

If you want to get the most out of your precious time as a busy business owner, don’t jump from topic to topic.

Instead, create more articles around one main theme or topic cluster.

This not only helps your readers binge your content, but also builds topical authority in Google’s eyes, search engines, and for AI search.

My Top Recommendation For Elena Going Forward: Pinterest for Steady, Evergreen Traffic

Because Elena is so busy and wants to make the most of her time, I also recommend focusing on a platform where her content has a long shelf life and keeps working for her in the background.  She can easily repurpose existing content while working on her business or having time off with her boys.

For me and my clients, the best platform is Pinterest.

New to Pinterest? Read my Pinterest marketing for beginners guide.

Here’s why I use Pinterest myself, and why I teach this to other business owners:

  • Pinterest is a visual search engine.
  • Once you set up your Pinterest account the right way, and use my Pinterest workflow method, it almost runs on autopilot.
  • You can batch-create and schedule your pins, so you don’t have to show up every day.
  • Pinterest content has a much longer shelf life than on most social platforms. Pins can send you steady traffic for months, sometimes even years.
  • With my workflow method, you can Master Pinterest in 1 Day.
  • Set aside one focused day to get everything in place, and you’ll have a system that keeps sending new eyes to your best content and offers, freeing up your time for everything else you want to do.

If you want to see results like Elena’s and finally create smarter, not harder, you can always book a consulting session with me.

I’ll help you find the quick wins that make the biggest difference, so you can spend less time spinning your wheels and more time seeing real results.

The Results: 10x More Traffic, More Impact

Elena focused on just these two improvements, and her rankings and blog traffic massively increased in just two months after she started working on these suggestions!

(We had our call in January, and she started implementing my suggestions in February, and the massive traffic change happened in April.)

(See the purple line in the screenshot below? That’s her traffic after making these changes.)

It’s not rocket science. It’s about focusing on what actually works, not getting lost in the weeds.

Why This Matters (and How You Can Do It, Too)

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you’re not getting the results you want from your content, you don’t need to start from scratch or spend all day tweaking things that don’t matter.

Focus on the big wins:

– Clear, keyword-rich headings

– Smart, intentional internal linking

– And if you want to take it further, leverage Pinterest for even more evergreen traffic (my favorite way to get your content seen by new audiences without the daily hustle).

This is exactly what I help my clients with, whether it’s a consulting call, a content audit, or my Pinterest Workflow strategy. I want you to spend less time spinning your wheels and more time seeing real results.
